Fate of Animals Living With Carnivorous Humans

Cows could live to twenty for dairy cows do. Not the other ones, for they become beef in a stew Or steaks or hamburger, isn’t this something to know? We are horrible in some ways. This is clearly so. Pigs are bright, their brains are well-developed and true. We earthlings care nothing for that, ham and bacon will do. Pork chops are tasty, so six months is a pig’s average life span. If left to natural devices, they would outlive my gran. A rooster can live to be nine years old and often does. A hen could have but is lucky if she makes it to forty suns above. For we like our chicken – wings, thighs, and a breast Turkeys usually last seventy days, treated like all of the rest.

Hmmm...doesn't seem fair, does it? Why do we allow roosters to live so long? I thought they killed all of them off save one? I have so many questions about all of this. I may become a vegetarian!

I have to admit that I saw a chart telling how long a pig, rooster, cow and hen could live, but then telling how long we let them live before we slaughter them. It is a chilling chart!
