Fatal Critique

When Dad died, I wrote a poem to read, a tribute to the love he bestowed. Tears fell as, at jet speed, I scribed emotions that overflowed. Before the funeral I showed it to you, hoping you would allow me to share. “Amateurish,” you said and I didn’t pursue. For rhyme and meter, you didn’t care. Just three months later I’d compiled a book; a publisher said she was impressed. How I loved that expression, that look you gave me when with it was published.

Such a wonderful turn around, and how someone we love can not see who we really are, and of what we are capable...even though they are standing there so close. A wonderful entry, Carolyn!

a new FAVE for me! Carolyn, we all experience this kind of rubbish once and a while...but I feel horrible for you if this is a true story! Some people have a lotta nerve. I can say with all honesty that I have read a TON of your poetry and NOT a WINK of it is AMATEURish! I rarely pay attention to such drivel. In the world of poet trees....YOU are a REDWOOD to me! A spiritual GIanT in a world of so few Sequoia! I can count the poets I look up to on two hand...You are the middle finger (in a good way... meaning .TaLLer than the rest:) U know what I mean Ha!

Yes, I can just imagine your sister's smug expression changing to one of shock! Good for you, my friend. I felt so mad at Beth that I emailed Sketchbook and forwarded the proof it was a co write - the ed just emailed to say she did claim it was all her own work and he's removed it from the site.

A heartfelt write Carolyn, I know this has been on your mind ever since it happened, I am glad the contest of Michael gave you an opportunity to put pen to paper. I somehow believe that once we put the emotions out there we have a chance to grow and move beyond things that held us captive. All the best for the contest, love Wilma

This poem is perfect for the contest Carolyn! What a great way to tell a story of how you were denied a chance to read the poem at your fathers funeral and hurt by your sisters crude comments! She was never apologetic to you was she? I hate it when people think they know so much but in reality know so little! But you raised yourself well above the bar and got yourself published, congratulations, I'm proud of you! I wish I could get one of those books! I'd love to support your talent! Great Work!
