Farewell

Above I glimpsed The heavens. Peering deeply Into endless depths— Past stars and nebulae, Galaxies vast and distant— And then supernal realm of light. Awakened from life’s persistent dream, Free at last, I must now bid fond farewell.

Angie, very nice to meet you and deeply gratified that you'd look and comment on my earlier work. Indeed, I'm a stargazer having had deep involvement with the sky. Just can't get enough.

Love this one, Mark. May I borrow your mantra? Thanks for reading my stuff. I love the shorter forms, am short winded in my old age. Love, daver

Daver, I hadn't stopped by this poem for a long time and saw with regret that I hadn't responded to your comment. Thanks so much for these words, which really improved my mood.

Yes, Hale Bopp or something like that. What a wonderful comet that was. I had a wide angle telescope with a low power eyepiece, and I was able to fit a large part of it in the view. Amazing! Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the comment.

David, I'm not gone, but I'm pulling back a bit to allocate more time to my star map project. I'll return, as the muse dictates. Thanks for your visit.

"Awakened from life’s persistent dream, Free at last, I must now bid fond farewell" Beautiful lines. A very nice but sad poem. Nature can be so compelling if we all take time to saturate ourselves in it. Better than hanging out in the coffee shop all day. Keep writing...you have a wealth of talent.

These are comments that I will treasure forever. Thanks so much for your kind thoughts. To gain the deeper thing often means deferring momentary pleasure, or as someone wrote, we lose when we trade what we really want for what we want at the moment. I appreciate your visit.

I hope you'll change your mind; it's criminal to keep your genius all to yourself. I admire and respect you tremendously, Mark.

Ah, a fellow Northwesterner. I am near Port Townsend. I've driven through Northern Oregon many times. My poem "No Words" derives from an experience in Northeastern Oregon in the middle of an April night when I saw the Milky Way in unparalleled brilliance. It was overpowering, and I had no words to describe it.

Nicely written. If you like it better there, then by all means, you should stay.

Robert, I appreciate your visit to my page. I am sometimes forced to consider that somewhere else might be preferable to here. Someday I'll find out. All the best to you and your poetry.
