Fallen Leaf
On my shoulder a leaf had fallen
It fell from that tree standing over me,
It once shared such true colors
Life for it has ended, a part of reality.
It had so much to offer and tell
Now it’s left only to me,
There’ll be more in time to come
For now, there’s only one to see.
It’s faded and tattered but still a treasure
Life for it was up in a tree,
Free among the others to dance and sway
In its time, it was all it could be.
I don’t see others that fell
Perhaps it was the first one to let go
So many still live in that family
I don’t see any others here below.
Carefully I removed it from where it fell
Placing the leaf for my eyes to see
It seemed it wanted a place to stay
I had sad feelings it left its family.
A lot of days have passed by
Who would know it would drop where I stand,
It came down swaying back and forth
Landing on me and now in my hand.
