Fall Serenade

fall serenade

serenade of fall
 nor'easters and southerlies ~
  bittersweet in bloom

leaves sing with the winds
 arias of rising gales ~
  pumpkins harmonize

bare branches in tune
 thrum rhythms of autumn ~
  acorn symphonies

blast of icy frost
 elegies for summer air ~
  rainbow hued harvest

hues of country roads
chant scarlet, gold, umber notes ~
  wheat fields intone fall

draughts herald autumn
 fall ruffles and flourishes ~
  corn stalks beat in time

autumn song resounds
 carols of butterfly bush ~
  chimes float on flurries

Beautiful Sam, rainbow hued harvest, with lyrical imagery interwoven throughout, each haiku individual yet linked imperceptibly, and then to end on a chime is masterful, brilliant writing, cannot have been easy, cheers David

Many, many thanks coming across the pond to you David. Autumn tells a story of planting, maturing and harvesting for me. I just thought that life rhythm called for a haiku string - that the story could be told in one haiku built on the other. I am so glad you enjoyed this song of autumn! Sending you all the blessings of the season! Autumn cheers in spiced cider!

Dear Valsa, of all of the seasons fall sings to me with its codas of summer and overtures to winter. For me autumn is that time of the business of the harvest and resting when all is safely gathered in and prepped for the cold - chaos of activity then rest and celebration. I am so glad you enjoyed this picture of fall. It was a joy to share this season with you. Many thanks for your congratulations. Sending you all the blessings of the harvest.

The "Rites of Fall"...with music by Stravinsky...perhaps? A beautiful piece, Sam.

You are so right Kim! "All of nature sings." It seems to me that every element of nature has it's own kind of music - it's original song - and we are truly blessed to have ears to hear this perpetual symphony of the seasons. Thank you for your delightful message. Sending you all the blessings of every season.

Thank you so much Victor. I am deeply touched by your wonderful feedback and your best wishes! I have loved learning to write haiku. So much can be said in seventeen syllables. And, fall is just full of opportunities to paint pictures in haiku. Blessings!
