Fairy Blood

Forest fairies fly the righteous path When the sun kissed leaves transform at last Turning shimmering shades of red like wrath As fairy blood reveals the past Of countless summers gone too soon And dropping deep in earth and time The wildflowers turning to the moon Drinking in the nighttime wine Fairy blood thus stink the air On the rising of the first whole moon Alas with rotting flesh so fair Red to rust and orange fume It crumbles up the forest light Turning the leaves to dust tonight

Dear Wendy, I am enchanted by the lyrical yet dark beauty and imagery of your amazing sonnet. Your couplet is striking for an impactful finale - "It crumbles up the forest light/Turning the leaves to dust tonight" -wow! Loved it all! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
