"My country tis of thee sweet land of liberty"~ we proudly sang in school, hands over our hearts but who is singing those words now?  With the world focusing on a distorted sense of reality, exonerating evil; I can't help but wonder the fate of this great nation.

"The seeds of freedom cannot flourish in flames of fire" the poet I look with ominous concern on this independence day; The ruling class, donned in the clothing of a sheep, While a compliant population still remains asleep; Our rights and liberties propelled into decay. A society, ‘progressive’, erodes morality with fantasy and lies; Lies construed as hope and change With a nefarious agenda to rearrange An ideology that threatens our freedoms in covert disguise. “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is fading away; mandates without truth in science holds us hostage in compliance; our inalienable rights, born to us, a fray. It took a revolution for freedoms to be achieved, freedoms being quelled into a memory of old The tenants of our constitution have been divisively sold, To a diabolical agenda that will not yield, until our freedoms are bereaved.

It is, indeed, difficult to fathom just what is going on these days...and why. Sometimes, though, I'm sort of glad that I most likely will not live long enough to see the whole shebang go completely to rack and ruin. Pretty strong stuff here, Paulette.

“Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is fading away” and this happens almost everywhere in this world... Great powerful lines in this meaningful verse... Thanks for sharing...

As I am not a US citizen, I don't really like to criticize, especially since my country, Malta is fading down to complete corruption. However USA is following our steps. Only God can help

You raise some very pertinent matters, Paulette. Although I am a bit more optimistic than you seem to be, I share your concerns. I believe in the strong, resilient character of Americans in general, so I believe in the coming years we will see a reversal of some of our most noisome directions. Thanks for this poem. Thought-provoking.

Dear Milton, I appreciate your commenting on what can be considered a 'controversial' poem. I am praying that our country will start to turn around; faith in the strength of Americans is all we can hope for. The optimism that you and Jenna share gives me a brighter view for the future. Thanks for stopping by. Happy 4th! Paulette

There's no denying we are a country in disarray. Lack of GOOD leadership over the last couple of presidencies has only hindered us. Sometimes a forest fire cleanses the land, and then the seeds that were firmly planted based on democracy will sprout again. One can only hope this will be the future if someone who has the nation's best interest at heart can come forward. I see no one who can fill those shoes on the horizon. More's the pity for us. Good points made, Paulette.

Dear Jenna, thank you for stopping to read my 'controversial' poem. I appreciate your diplomacy and grace. You too make a good point;seeds planted firmly will survive through raging fires.I am so passionate about the America I once knew, sometimes I become pessimistic....I am reassured by your optimism. Happy 4th! Blessings,Paulette
