Fading Flame

Written: August 20, 2025, for contest Sponsored by: Line Gauthier ******** We built a divine jewel, a flame in the mist, But not every fire is destined to persist. No vows etched in stone, no oaths to renew— Just the gentle whisper of a love we outgrew. So speak my name softly, then let it fade— Not every farewell needs a curtain shade.

Congratulations Sotto, on your selection with this poignant, deeply philosophical work. Nuanced approach tactfully depicting the the limits of certain relationships. Howard

Congratulations, poet friend, on your win in this contest with a superb poem on love waning as the moon, that needs no curtain`s shade. So lovely and touching to the depth of the heart. Hope another moon would have waxed to take its place.

Lost love. Always attracts. I felt an undercurrent of romanticism.

This reads like a good contender to me for the contest. Way to go. So sad when love turns from its good state to a lesser one. Thanks for sharing. Sara K

engaged from the beginning with 'divine jewel' and 'gentle whisper of a love we outgrew.' Softly realistic with a hint of romaticism. Loved this one too. Wishing you a pleasant day, dear Sotto!

I like this juxtaposition on the usual heartbroken separation. I will dwell on these words for some time. I can imagine their lives going forward, and wonder, "Was it a mistake?"
