Eyebrows
All my life I’ve had bad eyebrows
It’s an enduring family trait
They just seem to boldly sprout
More and more each passing day.
I could never be a vain man
With a pair like those
Dominating me forehead
And the bridge of me nose.
As a young man I endured
With many a suppressed sigh
Each new acquaintance examining
The bold growth above each eye.
I’d hack them with a razor
Then realise with a curse
By making them uneven
I’d only made them worse.
Sadly I’ve still got them
Sprouting merrily away
Bit now at least at my age
They’re a more subdued grey.
All my life I’ve had bad eyebrows
Life garden hedges running wild
Bushy, jet black and capable
Of subduing any unruly child.
