Expectations
He was an island, strong and vast,
And I was a ship with a heavy load to cast.
To reach him, I had to pass his deep ocean,
But the waves were too rough, too much commotion.
He demanded all my time and all my heart,
And I thought I could give him that, right from the start.
But his expectations grew, like an endless sea,
And I found myself drowning, unable to break free.
I tried to navigate his every storm,
But his ocean was too deep, too much to conform.
And though I tried to make it clear,
His ocean just wouldn't disappear.
So I had to break free and sail away,
Even though it hurt me more every day.
Now he's mad, says I caused the pain,
But it was his ocean of expectations that restrained.
I hope he finds what he's looking for,
But I can't be his ship anymore.
I wish him the best in life,
But I won't be caught in his ocean of strife.
