Evolution of the Jam
once there were no screens on stage &
the band playing was all that kept the attention
of roaring fans & screaming crazies,
but soon came the screen behind the band,
with accompanying light shows &
fake fog,
all adding an extended emotional aura to the
fury of the jam,
accentuating the melodies & the harmonies
of pop sensations or psychedelic shoegazers
cultivating a plethora of combination of
sights & sounds---
now, as the dj begins to work her/his way in
& the band drifts away,
the need for more people on stage deteriorates &
the performance becomes a greater amount of glowing screens
avec more lights shining down upon the crowds
raising their light sticks,
writhing in an ecstasy all their own.
what is coming are the eye implants
that will enhance vision & allow the downloading of
all kinds of information, a la the internet,
creating a new ability to form our world
the way we want it &
though this has potentially frightening possibilities,
the evolution of the jam, of live performance
will be one in which a distinction between the audience &
the performer becomes blurred,
where a meshing of the two
find themselves standing side beside
amidst a new ethereal plane.
