A young man in our family has turned everyone against him because every time someone tries to befriend him he hurts that person with vicious lies. Even his partner has left him. Some people are their own worst enemy.
Have you ever told a story, said something that was untrue,
Perhaps to make yourself look good though such tactics were undue?
Have you ever denied a thing that truth of fact you'd done,
Perhaps for self protection when you were under the gun?
Have you ever betrayed a friend who thought you could be trusted,
Who stood by you through thick and thin but you left their life disrupted;
By things you said and things you did you never should have done,
But you thought only of yourself and things you could have won?
Have you ever betrayed the love of a friend or family member,
And used their love and loyalty to light a fire like tender;
A fire that burned the bridges that they tried to build for you,
A fire you built with cruel lies, a fire that grew and grew,
Until all that you had hoped for and all that you did have,
Was burned to ashes, blown away by the winds of righteous wrath?
Instead of trying to look good, so smart, so in the know,
It's better oft to hold your tongue when winds of trouble blow.
If you can't say something good,then don't say something bad.
Hurting others hurts you too, it leaves you tired and sad,
Without a friend or relative who gives a whit, a care,
And without friends and family you haven't got a prayer.
