Minuanetta
Invented by Gregory R Barden it's comprised of at least six stanzas, each stanza consistent with itself in rhyme, and decreasing in the number of lines with each stanza, with the final stanza created of one line of the rhyme of each stanza, a rhyme scheme of AAAAA, BBBB, CCC, DD, E, ABCDE.
Parking lots are empty, city streets bare,
no one expected this; nothing can compare.
Acting cavalier, some don't seem to care
the elderly may die gasping for air
and complain, being kept inside's unfair.
The low-wage everyday workers get scared,
finding themselves jobless and unprepared.
And it's soon apparent no country's spared,
the whole world's at war, though it's undeclared.
The airlines and national borders closed
when self-quarantine measures were imposed
and facts of the pandemic got disclosed.
Social distancing stresses the nation,
for socialization is its foundation.
And we've got good reason to bellyache.
Corporate greed failed hospital healthcare,
profits got in the way; so no one cared
a pandemic could leave the world exposed.
A lack of supplies bought desperation,
and everyone's paying for that mistake.
