Ever See

Ever see the counters wiped clean
in purity, whilst the laughs coincide
with rolling, cutting and baking?

Ever try to duplicate the situation
comedy do or die? Rolling up
your super sleeves - smiles and falala.

Ever clear, after midnight - elbows
covered in bubbles, pots and pans,
beaters, measuring cups and spoons
that the laughs didn’t measure up?

Ever near - the loved ones swallowed up
in pillows and quilts, in raging snores,
tired as trees after a storm; sweetened
up with proverbial sugar plums.

Ever be the one still standing near the broom
and mop, by the glow of the moon, by
the teapot hissing its silent night wishing?

Ever see the counters wiped clean,
in purity, after hours and hours of disbelief?

Ever believe you’ll do this holiday win -
again and again? and laugh and laugh
at the vitriol that you launch at t.v. land…

Occasions like Christmas are equally jovial and tiring. When the family gets together, naturally there will be lot of work, but pleasure too, especially for mothers. You have drawn a vivid picture of the hectic times. This time bake less as it creates the maximum mess ! Kim, Wish you a more relaxed Christmas this time.

Oh…it is when the grandkids come over. No time for planning, always last minute…and only overnight…so, tired but a memory! Thanks, Valsa!

My POTD for the Day! This is so much the spirit of love and family. Should be printed out, and framed for the Louvre. If no room, take down the Mona-Lisa. And don't dust the place while you are there. Jeez!

oh boy, I get ya on this one!! My kitchen looks like a tornado hit it if I make even a small dinner for my daughter's family. Anyway, this RARELY happens any more. WE do all our holidays at HER place, and I don't make many cookies any more. haha. Great poem, Kim

Nice- a nice portrait of an idealized family life, and true- it's so hard to live.
