Even the Smallest Ants Cast Long Shadows
Even the Smallest Ants Cast Long Shadows
The rains have soaked the land and has unearthed
The strongest insect thriving in their mound
The sunlight throws shadows and dries the parched ground
I draw in the fragrance of the fresh rain and earthy scents
In my leisure morning walks with my small, tough, protective dog
He makes his frequent stops and elevates his leg,
Sniffs all the odors left behind
Children at play,
An adult raking leaves in their yard,
A little dog sniffing in just the right place
Gets the ants all excited and they defend their mound
For being such a very small insect even
The Smallest Ants Cast Long Shadows and a big bite
And sets out their revenge
Little children cry and quit playing,
the adult stops raking and gets upset,
and a poor little tough dog runs up and down
the grass rubbing and shaking his head,
struggling to get the vengeful ants out of his nose and body.
