Euterpe

By Mount Helicon we met Cupid struck; and in love’s net We were caught, just you and me Underneath the willow tree Past the sunset through the night Tasted moments of delight Exchanged kisses, drank the wine Precious nectar from the vine Goblet sent by gods divine We ascended to cloud nine Till at last we fell asleep Slowly drifted far and deep In the land of dreams reclined In each other’s arms entwined. When I woke by light of dawn All alone, found you were gone Agitated called your name But of course you never came Panic grew; was I to blame? My tears fell; I knew no shame Shivers racked my body whole Icy cold and shattered soul Hugged the pillow where you lay Robbed of thoughts and words to say Outside wandered in the rain Felt the ache of searing pain. Didn’t know what had gone wrong The emotions were too strong. Now I pine each day for you There is nothing else to do Just in case you do return Make my heart with pleasure burn... You know where to find me Here awaiting I will be Under the willow tree... --------------------------------------------------- Author: Paul Callus ~ 10th April 2014 Contest: Any Poem#20 Sponsor: Poet Destroyer A Placing: 3rd

Very many thanks Ivo! Yes, I have written many poems in Maltese and had several of them published in anthologies. Here's one Maltese word for you: 'merhba' which means 'welcome'. cu // paul

Hi Paul. What a lovely story about a lost love. I love the opening stanza, as you take us through a musical dance of passion, blessed by Euterpe, of course. But Euterpe can be fickle, can't she? Without skipping a beat, she withdraws her grace and your wonderful opening dance collapses in despair as you try to cope with this unforeseen loss. Your rhythm and rhyme are flawless. It is hard to maintain the consistency of either in a poem of this length -- at least for me. Well done! Peace.

Hello Paul, thank you for the awesome poem,,, Congrats :) ... by the way I have something to say to all who supported my ANY POEM # 19 contest. Shame on me, Shame on me! Please forgive me, for not taking the time, to CONGRATULATE and adore all the winning poems for a second or third time. I AM VERY LATE:(-- I was a little mad at the world. However, this is my winning list, I will give everyone the same love and support. I'm dropping by with a Copy Paste note from the bottom of my heart. I am sorry, it's not like me, to walk away, as if nothing. Truly, I appreciate every winning poem, and HM. LOVE
