Entertained By a Dilemma
He’s trying to decide what to do tonight.
Walk his loneliness around the neighborhood,
on a mental leash, so it won’t run around and
startle random strangers, wagging its tongue
like a tail.
Or stay in his little apartment and his head,
play conversational ping-pong with himself,
the TV like a boring fellow dinner guest you
have the misfortune to be seated next to.
Weighing the cons, because the two options
can’t muster a single pro between them.
In the end, as usual, that’s what he’ll end up
doing for the rest of the night.
Trying to decide.
