There is a land where peaceful giants dwell A magic forest, on a mountainside Its waterfall carved out a wishing well Where wishes ride a giant waterslide An old stone troll bridge leads up to its crest The pesky trolls were banished long ago Their sandstone cottage, now a place of rest For deer who graze on summer grass below Its summit came for me mid-afternoon My endless quest for treasure took me there I stayed the night, cavorting with the moon The sun aroused me from my lofty lair The fortune which I found could not be spent For who knows the price of enlightenment by Daniel Turner

Daniel, I love this sonnet! It is really good! Like Tom, I stumbled a little bit on that last line; I think I notice it more because all the rest is in perfect meter. It's a great sonnet, and I think anyone should write how they want, and yes, content is more important than meter. And I like the content here, a beautiful sonnet to go with the photos. Hope you're having a nice weekend!

Hello Danny, A beautifully written and superbly done sonnet!! The imagery you've used captures the reader's attention at once. And the ending couplet with the reference to the "price of enlightenment" is absolutely perfect. Extraordinary Work!! Best Wishes Always, Gary (P.S. A FAVE TOO!!)

Yes sir. These photos were taken at Petit Jean Mountain State Park. Buddy and I went hiking there for a day a couple of weeks back. The poem is about what we saw and what we did. Thanks for dropping in Charlie. I will try to come up with another tale for your entertainment:)

Sometimes meter can be slightly off in a sonnet unless you can find another way to word the phrase. (looking at Tommy's comment) I think even Shakespeare did not always write with perfect meter.

When a writer is great, he can deliberately change meter or whatever the heck he wants as long as it still sounds good. haha. So I am calling you great, Danny boy! (hope what you did was deliberate!)

There are those who will argue content takes precedence above meter. I just write for the hell of it:) It gives an old man something to do:)

Very well written, Daniel. I especially liked the last stanza and last couplet. That was a cool image of cavorting with the moon and rising from a lofty lair!!! (it's is its for the possessive pronoun with crest)

It's is the possessive pronoun for the mountain. This took place on a mountainside. The same as It's (waterfall). Thank you, Andrea. I appreciate your kindness.
