Notes About The Poem

6/30/2024

I wrote a haiku to document the shock of England's loss to Slovakia with just minutes left in the match. It turned into a Tanka after Jude Bellingham's equalizer. Then Harry Kane's header in extra-time (with an Ivan Toney assist) secured England's great escape!

Good one, Mark :) In fact it wasn't the only great escape, until finally Southgate ran out of 4-leaved clover and horseshoes!! ~ Regards // paul

Lol, that’s a great way to look at it, Paul. England pulled out all the stops, but Spain was too good! So in the end, it’s good to be Spain ;)
