Notes About The Poem

An Enemy of the People is an 1882 play by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen that explores the conflict between personal integrity and societal norms.

Enemy Within

Our President's reasoning is cruel and warped and bent
He has not an inkling of what Ibsen's play meant

A doctor explained how a town's epidemic was spread
But an ignorant mob asked for the good man's head

Ibsen's "Enemy OF The People" was the one true voice
Bow down to the king? It's the people's choice

Trump's "enemy within" False and uncouth!
We the people, dear leader, are telling the truth

T calling our Democrats now "Dumacrates" Excuse me what grade are you in ? I know what your trying to say T. How babyish. Trump doesn't make sense when he speaks, pronouncing words incorrectly and with incomplete sentences. I love this poem, especially your first 3 adjectives

Robert, Seems like money and lusting for it can cause many ills (literally in the case of the play). Clearly, we have a leader blinded by desire for adulation and money. Not a good combination is a capitalistic system. Glad you are making these statements in an artistic and thoughtful manner. A pleasure to contemplate. Smiles!!

A picture says a thousand words, it really is a great picture. I'm impressed! You have been doing the hard work to express how serious our Democracy is & must live on! I appreciate you. Our President has attacked Democrats on this day as terrorists & criminals, funny, all I saw today were workers, families, & young folks standing up for their right to protest against an authoritarian leadership, Americans together for their love of America!

Absolutely, this is what happens when literature and history are removed from our collective conscience. Our founding fathers knew how dangerous ignorance is to democracy 1984--indeed!
