End of Summer

End of summer whistles through trees, Like skylarks floating on the breeze Staying awhile, a month or more, Until winds come in howling roar Blowing sleet, snow, and bitter freeze. Summer temps creep down by degrees, Despite extremely humid sprees I recall September’s rainy tour, End of summer. Weathermen give no guarantee, Weather-watchers won't disagree June and July sudden downpours Can alter the league’s baseball scores, But football hurts from early freeze End of summer.

This rondeau moves so fast, it made me feel the weather.

Thanks, Caren. I think it may have moved a little too fast! See note to Gershon below.

I just love the first stanza, even if I hate to see summer go. So beautifully penned, Milt. Happy Summer and Happy Independence Day, Gershon

Thanks, gw. This poem has gone through more editing, rewritings, and rearrangings than I can count. I finally just got tired and put it on here. I'm not terribly pleased with the second or third verses, frankly.
