Empty Soles

Warm leather once danced on happy feet
Now cold and still abandoned by the wall
Lovers strolled along moonlit paths
The pairs now long gone into the past
Children played joyfully in the park
Those shoes are carelessly tossed
Young and old marched to their death unshod
Leaving behind empty soles heaped high

This is really a touching piece about the fate of those souls who wore those shoes :( It's really so sad, that period in our world's history :( thanks for sharing & wishing you the best in the contest

It's my hope that all of the "happy feet" climbed the stairway to heaven. Let the photos of the holocaust serve as a reminder of just how cruel we can treat our fellow man. Great poem, Christi! Love, Carolyn

so sad, I had to cry when I saw those pictures. to think that they saved their clothes and shoes but discarded the people...
