I’ve created a family, with billions of billions,
I’m the reason that we’re all alive,
And because of me, millions of species,
Have been the ones to boldly survive,
Because my shape is perfect, the same every time,
Incredibly fragile yet firm,
Able to take my cargo, and protect it each time,
Then deliver it when it turns a full term.
You see, I’ve an oval, spherical, elliptical form,
Colourfully smudged with a mark,
And I’m sat on each day, every bit of each day,
Kept alone and warm in the dark,
But people best know me, on the breakfast table,
When I give them what they want the most,
When I’m served on a plate all scrambled or fried,
With bacon and onion and toast.
