Echoes of Your Mind

PG RATED Don’t spoil tonight with the woes of tomorrow, For that might lead to a multitude of trouble, Nasty Ghosts are looking to mess up your sleep, But if you wish to insist, let’s take a peep. Ghosts come unbidden from the foggy, muddy, misty Grounds of silence and dreams, somewhere from elsewhere, In the echoes of your mind, whilst still fast asleep, a threat, For softly they tread in the dark, ourselves only to blame I bet. Too many horror movies we have watched of vampires And werewolves, of witches who cast spells, Lock you in dungeons, bubble bubble their stew, they brew, Which consists of snails and puppy’s dogs tails, and you. How about Dracula, and his bloody, thirsty, stained fangs, Rather watch fireworks on Guy Fawkes that go bang, bang, But don’t wander too far for the shadows have eyes at night, They just might jump out of nowhere and give you a fright. So before going to sleep read something joyful and happy, Perhaps a Tom and Jerry show or Fred Flintstone and Barney, Don’t spoil your evening with the woes of tomorrow, Put all aside and focus on past glad memories, often forgotten.

"Don’t spoil your evening with the woes of tomorrow, Put all aside and focus on past glad memories, often forgotten." Beautiful advice. Those whose mind get muddled with fearful thoughts and scenes during day are likely to get horrifying nightmares. So fill the day with pleasant thoughts and avoid walking into strange places during night. I love your warning- 'even shadows have eyes at night'! This poem is scary, funny and serious at the same time.

First I was hesitant to read, as I am exhausted and wanna refresh first, but once I read the first line, it was on and on and on. Just wanted to go a few more paragraphs. It's a lovely piece, being movie fanatic, a lover of horrors deep in the night, I can't deny the thoughts expressed in here just ring true true true... My best regards Jennifer

Dearest Jennifer, my sweet poetry sister, your thought-provoking verse is filled with wonderful wisdom and imagery. I completely agree with your philosophy so beautifully and vividly expressed. I definitely prefer classic cartoons to horror flicks. Congratulations to you, my lovely friend, for your inspiring poetry being included in PS's new anthology. Warmest wishes sent across the sea.. ~Susan

Jennifer Jennifer Jennifer. Hi. A woman after my own heart. I love how you mentioned and incorporated the cartoons and positiveness. Truly. That to me was clever and I would rather live in that world instead of all the news that we see on TV. Allow me to say you never strayed from your marvelous title because how true is that. Very. Thank you once again for sharing your skilled talent. May the pen be with you always. Have a wonderful day. Peace and Blessings always (smile)

Very good advice Jennifer, we should fill our hearts with joy, not horror or sorrow and let Him above take care of tomorrow. A great read, Belle

Great advice, Jen, you covered the topic well. I like the line with snails and puppy dog tails, that's what little boys are made of in the children song. I want to congratulate you on your two poems being published in the latest edition of Poetry Soup's Anthologies! YEAH !!! I also want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it? Hugs, Bill

They're in the very back, Jen, Index by author. It lists the name once, twice, or three times according to how many poems were chosen. The page numbers are also list on the right-hand side, last column. How this helps, Bill

Ha! Great admonition. No werewolf or vampire movies or novels for me. I read a chapter of the Bible with my wife every night before bed, then we discuss a bit. Some might find that rather dull, but it works for me. Have a great weekend

Jennifer, your soothing words are lovely. I've often found myself arguing that depression, in essence, is a significant transgression since it signals an absence of confidence. Instead, we need to fix our focus on the Divine Creator rather than His earthly manifestations, for it is there that we will find eternal bliss. Thank you for sharing your knowledge; it is quite beneficial.

Well said Jennifer. The way things have been going for me lately I have said: "Well, Satan hats me but that just means I'm in good company." Despair is a sin because it means you have lost your faith. Keep your eyes on the Creator and not on His created. You will be much happier. Good stuff here. God Bless, JB

Oh my, this is such a beautiful poem dear Jennifer, I too don't like to watch horror movies etc. and your advice of watching Tom and Jerry is just perfect for me, it made me smile! Indeed, we shouldn't waste any time from these precious present seconds in the worries of tomorrow. The message in this poem is really deep. Also the mentions of scary things really created an eerie ambience, overall creating an intriguing ambience for the reader! This is the first poem I've read of yours and I loved it

The wind does strange to our minds as it howls and pushes on our outside doors, especially if it is accompanied by a severe electric storm. Thank you for a lovely comment poetry si and sending you bunches of hugs and blessings. Jennifer.

I do believe in ghosts: ghosts of regret, dread, anxiety, grief, worry, and terror; all floating through the theater of the mind as we try to turn off the console and get some sleep. Nice write and wonderful to read you again. So sorry for my busy life taking me away from Soup. Thank you for your visit and kind words. Blessings and hugs ~ John

Hi Jan, How I love when I see your comment first from a sentimental point of view, as you were first to comment on my first poem 'Blonde, absent minded or fair'. I don't read books that are about horror, but I admit i have written a couple of dark poems, but yes we must protect our children. Don't think you know that I am a grandma now to a beautiful 10 month old little girl, after almost 18 years of living together and for the last 8 years married, my son and daughter in law decided to have a baby - I would LOVE to share a photo on soup but her parents would prefer I didn't. Hope you are well Jan. Blessings and hugs, Jennifer.
