Ebony and Ivory By his side, amidst their college graduation fanfare Dreading the end of their great love affair “I’ll make you happy, this I swear” He’d suddenly said, while lost in the grip of her stare “Come with me to Africa; my all, with you I’ll share” By some college project, they were made a pair And each other’s hearts, they later did ensnare For their love, she’ll follow him to Amaland or anywhere Though, she knew not what reception awaited her there Surprise! They were heralded by trumpets blare All citizens, clad in the best they could wear In welcome, she was danced round the palace square And she glistened from sweat under the tropical sun’s glare A glorious sight, never before seen there; The first white queen to a black African heir Ivory white with a face so fair And ebony black with kinky hair Daily commands everyone’s stare As hand in hand, they go everywhere Bound by a love, only for those bold enough to dare Note: This is purely imaginary Feb. 10, 2017
