Easter Sunday 1959

Easter Sunday 1959 We were sparklingly modern Petticoats flounced down the sidewalk Boys wearing dark suits with clip on ties Brother was reluctant My cousin and I were delighted Loving our new Easter bonnets and gloves Lacy white anklets decorated our shoes We felt pretty, and we were We went up the church steps all giggly and giddy Excited to show off our finery Forgetting how painfully long The reverend always rambled on and on.... Soon enough wondering if we would ever get to eat our chocolate eggs

My history as a child at Easter mirrors yours as did my pretty dresses that never matched my same bored face in church. But know this, by the time we arrived at church, I was already chocolate sated but happy to daydream about how I'd proceed later with regard to eating my choc bunny's head! I enjoyed getting all nostalgic with you through your visual words - oh, my, didn't Mom's look beautiful on Easter? Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Easter this year is going to be so different; cyber church is not like dressing up and prancing in wearing lacy socks and puffy dresses with Easter bonnets. I had forgotten all of those little white gloves! They were the best! Miss the olden days now

Wow to all the comments. Love hopping down memory lane with all of you! Born in 1960, I remember our dresses were more like the Brady Bunch. My mom would pose us sitting on an organ bench. My dad loved to use his camera. My brother was always up first finding all our baskets.

You are just a baby! By 1960 I had been to eight Easter Sundays! Hahahaha My paternal grandmother passed on Good Friday and was buried on Easter Sunday the year before my identical twin and I were born. She had three boys, always wanted girls. If she had waited she would have had 3 granddaughters for our favorite cousin was born the next year!

I loved those outfits; seriously though - back in the 80's my girls refused to wear dresses; it was not "in style" for some odd reason.

Hi Caren, I can relate to this. I loved Easter. It wasn't just another day like now in flip flops and jogging suits glued to a PC. A perfect poem, my friend. A glimpse into a delicious chocolate past and of remarkable beauty. Panagiota

Thank you so much Panagiota. I do adore a good Easter chocolate marshmallow bunny. My husband was at a big box store today; he said half the shelves were empty. And almost no one was in there; I could not imagine it - this close to Good Friday and Easter.
