Earth Rebirth
Like a late afternoon afterthought,
a torrential downpour, suddenly,
continuously drenches and floods
a stretch of parched marshland;
the wet grasses here and there
cast elongated, tapering shadows
in the dying daylight, across what
was once a crystal-mirror lake;
ah, but soon, when the skyline melts
into the darker part of twilight,
there shall be throaty exultations
from bullfrogs and catfish
mixed with the shrill jubilations
of crickets and night birds,
rejoicing over a joyful rebirth,
the aftermath of a rainy afterglow.
