Dust To Dust

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust - All mankind to their fate are led. To face it - though - each human must! There’s no need to pray for the dead. Like motes of dust or grains of sand, God’s children, through his worlds, are spread. We wither but we go on, and there’s no need to pray for the dead. Yes, truly, I believe that we one day will be where angels tread to live again eternally. There’s no need to pray for the dead. Death takes our loved ones like a thief. Pray for those whose tears are shed, who must go on despite their grief! There’s no need to pray for the dead. March 25, 2017 for the Dust Contest of Shadow Hamilton

A very nice treatment of the form Andrea. The repeated line grows in intensity as the simplicity of belief expands itself. Nicely done

Yes, Catholics do believe in praying for the dead, in redemption for their earthly sins. Independently of this, I believe that we'll all get what we deserve!! Regards // paul

Another great piece by the incomparable Andrea. I agree with you completely, although Paganini, the great Italian violin virtuoso, used to play for the dead in the cemetery. Love, daver

In the Jewish religion there is something called Kaddish which is recited after someone dies. You might know that already. Thought provoking poem. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

I think it's a Catholic belief ... after this life is over no prayers can help us..

Wonderfully expressed Andrea :-) I agree with you wholeheartedly. Suffering is amongst the living. There is a great movie 'Defending your Life' with Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep. It's a comedy yet very wise. Would be a good one to 'snuggle' and watch in your cool 'basement'...lol blessings, lynn

EXACTLY, but my Catholic friends still wish for prayers for the dead!! So strange how we differ based on religion.

Nice, Andrea. : ) While the message is not unhopeful, I do feel a vengeful rhythm throughout.

someone asked me to pray for a dead person and I said I did not do that sort of thing and it led me to write this poem. I think we are all better off when we die, even though I do not look forward to dying. I think those of us left behind are the only ones to really suffer.
