Drum Roll, Please---

a woodpecker drums
from his perch on the high pole---

       cracks in the silence
          of a sunny afternoon
              echoes through a neighborhood

Love this one, Carrie. :) These little woodpeckers are so adorable, we have some in our yard and yes, like little min-drummers! Of course, the tree probably doesn't think they're as cute as I do-! haha You captured this moment in time perfectly, a written snapshot of nature. :) Love, Amy

Awesome Tanka, Carrie! Yesterday afternoon we had a woodpecker across the street and it did "echo" through the neighborhood! The imagery is perfect! Love, Robin

Excellent write! This is a new form to me but I love the way it reads. Though the sound of them can get annoying when I am trying to rest I love to hear them... crazy, I know. LOL You write with so many vivid images in this short piece I can hear them already! Oh, wait there is someone knocking at my door...LOL just kidding. Well done. Smiles from Lolita
