Drought Ends

Darkness loomed as they looked up on high Lightning zig zagging across the leaden sky, Giving cameo snaps of a mountain frieze. People falling onto their bended knees. Thunder, like mighty cymbals on their ears, That sonic boom fills them with fears. Then down it came with forceful might, From clouds that had turned day into night. Huge globules of water that hit the ground, Hitting each roof with a terrible sound. Greedily sucked in by cracked, parched earth, Everyone went out and danced in the rain, They thought it would never happen again. For the earth had been dry for over two years, Animals died, crops had failed, amid many tears. They believed that,to them, the Devil had come, Bringing with him the searing desert sun. Then the Angel had come with rain once more, Breathing life back into the dry desert floor. The desert once again gulped down the rain, Taking more and more and more again. The people cheered and tears ran down faces, As they watched it fill up the watering places. What animals they had would now be saved, What crops they had could now be raised. Life was slowly being restored, They thought they were by God ignored. The past forgotten, the future looked bright, All because it rained with fearsome might. © Dave Timperley 05 September 2016

Nice poem, Dave. Rain is almost always a welcome sight. We generally go a month or two in the summer without rain. Hard to sustain any kind of life.

It hasn't rained here since late April Daniel, which is fairly usual but the extremely consistent high temperatures of 40+ is not, causing forest and scrub fires that take much needed water from the dams. Water is very important for Island life. Thanks for commenting my friend. God Bless. D.
