Driving the Prairie

layered clouds like mountains.
blond and green grass blowing.
single tumbleweed tossing
across highway; Dakota wind
crossing its eyes, slamming
wide open driver's side door.
grinning on prairie grass
at illumination's waving,
and dark ponds’ rippling.
arriving in Sioux Falls safely.

Dear Kim, I know you were traveling recently, this is beautifully atmospheric! I love the "layered clouds like mountains," the blond and green grass, and that sudden, chaotic jolt of the Dakota wind slamming the car door wide open. Ending on that safe arrival in Sioux Falls after such an almost spiritual encounter with the landscape is just wonderful. A brilliant roadside illumination! Blessings, Daniel

Wonderful poetic description, filled with pure imagery and the buzzing atmosphere of wide-open spaces. What I like about the Arizona desert when I can still find it.
