Dragons, Dragonflies and Hufflewinks

The two dragons left alive became the tyrannical kings pets trained to help in battles where there would be nothing left just charred soldiers and smoky landscape to singe the eyes resulting in another victory and a ruthless kings winning smile But soon the two skinny dragons tired of the same old thing of being fed few leftovers while folks kissed the kings ring not to mention being tied up in a stall with a heavy chain with the dragonflies buzzing around to drive them both insane So with the help of the kings two aids the hufflewinks who understood the dragons plight and thought the king a fink one moonless night snuck out of the castle while on tiptoe trying not to alarm the two sleeping dragons down below While whispering and petting them they whispered it's okay were here to set you free so you can both be on your way the dragons smiled as the hufflewinks winked at them knowing they could always count on them since they were friends The dragons at once set out into the moonless night running because their wings had been clipped which meant no more flight this time cornered and captured by the kings opponent the next day who fed them both a wonderful bountiful meal without delay They also built a large stone structure for the dragons to live in the dragons were now treated fondly as if next of kin as fate would have it they were sent to torch the king on the battlefield but spared his life his prisoner fate being sealed The hufflewinks were brought home to be part of the dragons new family with the despot king thrown in jail there was now peace and prosperity happily the dragons no longer had to fight on anymore battlefields but instead fought the battle of the bulge from eating way too many meals 5-26-18
