Downshift
Tonight I find myself caught within your grip
My mind orbiting thoughts of what if
What if I had stayed instead of skipped
Would you had caught my drift
What if love had poured instead of just a drip
Would the balance ever shift
What if when I fell you at least tripped
Would hearts had soared an honest uplift
What if I came instead of letting sanity slip
Would peace rein or still this rift
What if I had remained silent instead of using lip
Would the ending had been so swift
What if I had been strong instead of letting my nerve trip
Would your love had been my gift
What ifs are many and often double dipped
My heart remains yours while my love goes adrift
