Down the Avenue

Down the Avenue

You won’t believe, what’s down the street, until you see
Put shoes on your feet, listen for the beat, then follow me
Our struttin’ grooves and swanky moves; that’s what we do
Now join the crew, we’re heading to the Avenue…

When we arrive, open your eyes, and observe
Crowds in the street, rainbow complete, a winding curve
Honor and pride, stand side by side, holding proud signs
We join the fight, march for what’s right, as justice shines

East to west, humankind’s best, stake out the Avenue
Marching and chanting, riots and ranting in view
Magical news caught bird’s eye views of Avenues
Mixtures of races found common places, and grew…

Injustice was fought, equality sought
Though this march is far from through
Together we can, remain hand in hand
And make magic down each Avenue...

Thank you, Bill! I love the way you say, "down them avenues," as I began this poem whimsically light and gradually took it to a more serious, yet hopeful place! Thank you very much for your kind words! God Bless!

I'm also sorry I missed your response! Thank you for your kind feedback! One of the great themes involved here is friendship of all races, which I strongly advocate, so thank you for pointing that out! God Bless!

I like where you took this contest 'assignment'. Not only was it lively and engaging, it also went somber expressing many unfortunate truths - but optimism was generously sprinkled through out (made me wonder if you are a Libra.) I enjoyed your poem. ... CayCay

Thank you for your kind comments. I always love feedback, especially very specific! I know I missed the mark with what the sponsor was looking for, but, like you said, the fantasy kept bringing me back to reality. I'm actually a Pisces! I appreciate your comments! Thank you!!
