Listen to poem:
I can't imagine my heart so callous As to pass you by without a second look Not a soul stepping up to lend a helping hand Down on your luck with no where left to turn Day after day deprived and lonely Hungry and dirty from cruel rejection I can't imagine my heart so callous As to pass you by without a second look I see here today a man who climbed out of his rut The rare one who escaped and somehow found his way How many of you are out there on the streets Resigned to live without hope for salvation I can't imagine my heart so callous As to pass you by without a second look Those faceless people out on the street have souls And like you the right to dream to be set free I can't imagine my heart so callous As to pass them by without a second look AP: 2nd place 2021 Posted on April 8, 2021

With our Saskatchewan winters... we don't run into a lot of homeless people. We seem to have enough shelters. Most homeless people in Canada move to the B.C. coast. But in the warmer months we have a few so I always carry a few 5 dollar bills for them. Have a great day.

I have seen plenty of these kinds along the boardwalk in Atlantic City. They're in those positions because they did not have enough sense to stop gambling. There's no sense in giving them money because they will just go back into the casinos with it. This is a good write.

I agree that's the case for many (especially if they're panhandling in the vicinity of a casino) but they're not all there and appearances can be deceiving. There can be many reasons. When I worked downtown, there were several. One in particular I remember would say something like 'God bless you' in the most sincere way all the time no matter if people gave or not. I don't know if he drank, maybe but if he wasn't a sweet individual he sure put on a heck of an act. Tonight I remember exactly what he looks like and I'm sorry I never said more than a quick hello to him (if that) ~

I could resist this comment I suppose,... but the dog looks like he's given up all hope, whereas the fellow in the picture may just be studying for his PhD in Egyptology. I heard that a position opened up in Tunisia after WW2 for an Associate Professor of Mummery. It's still open as far as I know.... ~ gw
