He used his fists, I heard him shout “clearing those temper demons out” A bloodied nose, a blackened eye Drink turns him into a violent guy Black bruises fade, so does their pain But the mental scars always remain I want to leave, I’ve tried and tried He drags me back, oh how I’ve cried Held captive - I am a beaten wife Who can’t escape this abusive life Random Phrases Contest Poetry Contest Sponsored by Miranda Hawley 06/09/2023

I am so glad you put fictional poem right beside the title of this. Abuse is not funny, nor is it even kosher. There are so many resources to help a person in an abusive situation and I hope that the person who reads this realizes that there is help and hope.

domestic abuse isn't just physical mental torture is on a massive scale with many abused to scared to try and break free and so often they have been forced to drop family and friends and only have their abuser who makes them feel so worthless they have to stay:-( hugs Jan xx

Hi Jan, I'm glad you clarified this or some one might have scheduled a "Wellness check" on you. Domestic violence is no laughing matter though and I've been thinking a lot of how brave Tina Turner was lately. Very well penned piece.

Not that it ever needed proof that you write more than poop poetry, but here it is. Wonderfully told in sad verses, Jan.

Thanks Lin, I know I love my witty poems but I can write the occasional serious one too, the line jumped out at me as soon as I read the choices last night and I had been thinking of a domestic abuse theme earlier in the week. I am not just a Poop poet as you so rightly say but today a souper suggested to me via soup mail I should do a contest on pooh lol:-) oh the challenge is so tempting lol hugs jan xx

Jan, I always have thought people should really know who their partners are. Love makes interesting bedfellows. There is no excuse for violence anywhere. We would hope this didn't happen, but alas.

Jan, your profound understanding and masterful use of imagery beautifully conveyed your ideas. Your fictional poem delves into the profound truth of women's struggles at home. Best of luck in the contest.
