Doing An Irish Jig

Doing an Irish Jig***

(To the music of The Bothy Band)
          ——— ———
So early in the morning,
If you looked, you
Couldn’t tell that I
Was really awake,
With my mind mixing
Through an Irish hornpipe jig
Beside pretty Peg
And Tiddie Dunbar.
After meeting in
What seems a dream,
We’re friends now
Here in the Glen.
We click.
We switch and twist.
We swing quickly
Our feet forward
And back, to stir
Along on our route
Corner by corner,
Searching for a feis.
They can’t trail our tracks
On this fine traveling.
Perhaps we’re keeping
A foot to foot over the earth!

Hi Sally, I am an Italian from New York, but my closest buddy, John, was an Irishman. Oh the party trouble we would get into! Good fun, though! Singing and dancing, a few too many toasts at times -- what a mix! Sinatra! Clancy brothers! All fond memories. Blessings! Love this poem. Goes in my favorites.

An envious NYC, northeast, story! I grew up in NJ, a commuter city, Plainfield, an hour west of Manhattan, having a large pop. Of Italian-American. Golly what handsome guys! So so glad you like the poem. I’ve been listening to Irish pub music a lot lately, very happy listening. I listen to the Italians for romance and passion. Puccini drops in on my heavenly booster club…. Hugs!
