Dog

you think its okay
to sink your teeth into her
and pull out chunks

until she thinks
thats where her worth comes from,
the pieces
       she loses

and when did she stop
being able to raise her voice
above a
             whisper?

and why do you ask
where the strength of her spine went?
where the woman you loved went?

when you trained it out of her
        you took it from her
you dont get to be mad about what you

                                     lost
you lost nothing
you didnt take

As an abused woman, now Free and Safe, I commend you on this poem. Your title is appropriate in my opinion. My abuse was long ago but left me crippled and ruined. No man should live if he does these things to a woman. There were a few missteps in the writing, but these can be fixed.

Thank you for commenting and im sorry you went through such a traumatic experience, this poem was 'inspired' by stuff my mother went through, and I wholeheartedly agree that some things can only be rectified with death or worse. if there are missteps theyre probably because of my anger when writing this, and if you have an idea of how I can fix it up id be happy too listen. Heres to recovery

I have fAVed this poem, as it should be given to every abused women and family shelter in America, so women could read it and think about it, and maybe in every high school and college also, so women and men could think about it.
