Distant Spring

Fragrant roses once held a promise of love and happiness
 But thorns of heartbreak leave a crimson stain of despair
    And a trickle of tears with a cold briny bouquet
    As love wilts in the season of loss and pain
 No blooms will come forth from a heart that's broken
 To blossom in spring with joy, and dance with glee
   All that's left are gloomy thoughts and an empty heart
    But time will heal the hurt, hope will then return
 A season of possibilities will be renewed in the heart
 Like the joy of butterflies awaiting yet a distant spring
