Distant Dreams
The mountains in the distance
Look purple In the wintry heat
Moanful is the word in this instance
Longing to be challenged in defeat
Was a long way to get there
Snow and drifts are hard to climb
Trudging along in all weathers
Each mile walked a challenging time.
Many an hour we slipped and slid
Why we were here no one understood
Sun glasses hid the tears we shed
As at last on the summit we stood
I was the leader of this band elite
Was the only one able to truly see
One was a soldier who lost his sight
Fighting for the likes of you and me.
He was a climber before he was blind
Thought that he wouldn't be able to return
Determination and a new climbing friend
Brought a smile back on his face to burn
