Notes About The Poem

Dirty Dancing

I love to go dancing each week,
alas, a new partner I now urgently seek

No conversation, Joe was such a bore,
as we shuffled around the dance floor

We’d mastered a waltz and the tango.
but he didn’t quite ‘get’ the fandango

He’d say let’s try that dance move again - 
crushing my tootsies, till I cry out in pain

I couldn’t walk when he broke my left toe
I said I'm sorry Joe, but you’ve just got to go 

My plaster cast gets removed on Monday
In time a new partner will come my way

If you’re wondering where Joe dances now ...
he’s at the rear end of a pantomime cow!

We took dance lessons one summer, and it seems within minutes I would forget the steps I'd just been taught. No broken toes, at least, whew! Such a delight to read this, hope you're able to get out sometime soon and 'shake yo booty' ! Congrats on your win

Timothy Hicks May 4, 2020 at 2:55 AM A few of my friends roped me into a formal dance class a couple times (it was some 20s or 30s style type of dance, almost ragtimey in a way, can't remember the name) ... long story short, I wasn't very good, but it was still fun! This was cute, Jan ... there's a lot of awkward people out there, but you gotta love them nonetheless! (pantomime cow ... what a phrase that is)
