Dinner with friends while soft candlelight glows We're dressed in formal attire, both genders Goblets of wine while conversation flows, what fond memories the moment renders. Shared recollections from decades, gone by. Good times of laughter and those when we cried. Melancholy, it was a night spent without a dry eye, happy tears and sad ones, we could not hide. Round the damask draped table we remained. Too quickly to us, it seemed the hours flew. Reluctance to end the night was not feigned, then, came the chimed hour to reckon adieu. Hearth side, I sat... satisfied and alone. Serene and reflective on friendships sown.

I do love a good sonnet and yours was excellent, Lin. The subject brought back memories of the past, when we used to dine with friends and relatives. Your descriptions of those times were very accurate. We shared memories of the good time and the bad times; we've all had both. I'm sure this poem will resonate with many that read it. One for my FAVs list for sure. I enjoyed the last two lines the best. They are the best part of such an occasion for me. Smiles ~ Blessings my friend. Bill

Nothing beats sharing time with friends Lin, especially those you haven't seen for a while, so much to catch up on but never enough time. Good luck in the contest. Tom

You're so right, Tom and thanks for the contest wishes. We'll plan a dinner in Milton Creek when you're up and around again. We'll have it at Aces, of course. A feast for your return to good friends. Hugs, Tom.

It's not the setting, Danny. It's the friends. Thanks for commenting and good morning.
