Different

'...the thorn in sharpened shade weathers all loneliness.' -Hart Crane Branches scratch the sky blanching the twilight pale and grey, the day is dying; my way is dark and dismal, the nightjar's distant cry my only solace as I wander washed in reveries of you and wish with all my heart it could be different. (Note: an exercise in alliteration and assonance... short 'a,' long 'a,' long 'i,' short 'i,' short 'o' assonance. 'b,' 's,' 'd,' 'w' alliteration. Poetry is music... similar sounds and a deliberate rhythm.)

This is so sad! But such beautiful language. Thank you for posting. Also, thank you for commenting on "London Bridge", it's amazing how much things change. As for Bolton, I was born nearby in Manchester. How odd! Anyway, I guess I have London to thank, I wrote "London Bridge" on a torn-up cigarette box whilst stuck in traffic on Tower Bridge LOL! This is lovely, sad and also beautiful at the same time. You gave great imagery here, so that I could picture it perfectly in my mind. I love the wording in this phrase: "as I wander washed in reveries of you." You paint a lovely picture with the words, we can clearly know what this person is feeling. Beautiful work Keith. God bless, Amy :)

Keith, I absolutely love this. So vivid and rich and filled with deep emotion. I know I've said it before but I must repeat myself, this poem wraps itself around me. The only thing that could make it better would be to hear you read it. I love the phrase "as I wander washed in reveries..." lovely. The note is great too, it really helps me understand the forms and I'm sure many others too. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful words and talents. Love Robin

These poems I'm reading, are remarkable...different each one with a unique style than others on the Soup! I'm so glad I discovered your poetry....this another fine example of your talent. The sad, longing nature if this is beautiful. Thank you so much for your kind comments on mine, and reference to other sources. I will look for "Dandelion Wine" ....I've read some of Ray Bradbury, but not that one. Thanks so much for taking the time to encourage, and show new things. ~ Carrie

Hey to you, Keith! If the way were 'dark and dismal'..you'd certainly brighten up the passageway with your poetical lanterns. You gotta know, keith, you're so very inspiring. Always overwhelmed by these pieces of mind-dialogue. The imagery here; another outstanding....the "branches scratch the sky"..mind blowing!:) So visual! Not so eerie, yet still stirs a stark pot with its bleak imagery. Wishing you and yours the best! God bless.....Love, Mikki
