Notes About The Poem

Die Die Pesky Fly - Lipogram

Sweltering summer temperatures and warm sultry summer nights left me scratching my legs red raw I hate receiving nasty insect bites I’d slather bare limbs with cream that the chemist had given me Bites are an issue that I live with itchy red legs are quite unsightly Every beach dress skims the earth and I ensure I spray all my skin But these heartless hungry critters find a gap and they get stuck in! I’ve spent all my hard earned cash yet have been unable find a cure Why can’t these creepy crawlies abstain, their bites I can’t endure A friend suggested that I purchase a new-fangled electric bug racquet It zaps the pesky bugs with each swat and E-Bay didn’t charge me a packet! The package arrived back in May with my electric zapper I’m smitten I’ll carry it with me all summer I am certain I’ll never get bitten! Interesting read of a poem well writ. To venture a suggestion, the only remedy against these 'hungry critters' as you say is: be thick skinned, almost a pachyderm if ye can...which alas few poets can, congrats for a fine win

Hi Jan, We have one of those and thank goodness we do, Africa's hohos are bigger and bolder and bite deeper. Only thing is we have to keep the racquet on them for far longer before they die! Great write, love it. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Nice work, but swatting keeps your heart pumping more blood to attract the blood suckers! Take comfort in the fact you needn't worry about ticks, scorpions, et al .......

I’m lucky I don’t get bitten too often. Annie must taste good because she becomes a mossy banquet every summer. I’ve got two of those electrocuters and every time a fly becomes a firework I feel like doing a lap of honour. So I sympathise on Annie’s behalf. All the best in the contest, Jan. Terry
