December

it's december; holiday thoughts chill me more so than this breeze as it wraps me up in winter's blanket i want to be like the trees colorless and bare of everything that weighs me down i want to dance free in the wind not snap like dead branches in storm's fury i'm snapping though and it's only december i can feel the weight of winter's wrath pulling me down grounding me i am falling blizzard-like more than a few inches deep everything is turning white fading fast within death's grasp i am december's ending

Sandra, I'm December-born and just love reading about my month (do you know the Sara Bareilles song? Gorgeous!) I acknowledge that my month can be a sad one, but I always love how you sew together your swatches of sadness into a comforting quilt to share your warmth with your poetry friends. Blessings and hugs ~ John

what a kind thing to say John...and thank you...my daughter in law has a birthday the week before Christmas, and one of my cousins and two close friends are Christmas day...I always try to keep the two separated and make sure they get birthday wishes and gifts aside from Christmas ones … hugs and blessings

I admire how you throw yourself into the Storm, and you always emerge more meaningful. Great emotional expression Sandra. J.A.B.

That last verse is so metaphoric with the hints of intense bereavement. I feel your pain. I've been there. Hugs :)

Hello Sandra! Very poignant. Real emotions are surfacing. I can relate somehow. Hope soon enough you can get off the phase and just look back with a shrug and a smile. Count me as your friend anytime. Christmas love & hugs, Wendy

Tremendous & hard-hitting write. When can a saddened heart become strong enough to turn a frozen December into a blooming May? Depends on how full the "glass"...excellent job!

I don't quite know what to say other than I can feel the emotion of your poem. Christmas has always been a lonely time for me. But the good that comes out of visiting with family and friends and knowing that it is really about the birth of Jesus Christ. Makes it so much better.....Hugs....Roger

Thank you Roger...i agree it is about the birth of Christ, though it's so commercialized that i think it lost it's true meaning along the way...my family has dwindled down in size quite a bit and things aren't as they once were... just seems each year december likes to bring some new sadness with the cold bite... hugs to you

Another sad beauty from you my friend...I'm not a big fan of the holiday season myself because it brings back memories of happier times with lost loved ones...The last verse is a stunner - Tim

And you don't look old enough to have grown children! I suppose the next thing you're gonna tell me is you're a grandma...

Having grown up in an abusive home with Substance abuse Christmas holds many horrible memories yet if I concentrate on who's birth we celebrate my spirit becomes brighter.
