"Sometimes those who think they bring the light extinguish it in others."  by Poet

Sadly, The truths they claimed Would set me free Rotted In the souls of twisted vines And broken branches. Decay Spreading from stagnant soil Through the roots And twisted bramble To the towering Papal tiara. Thus, freedom came And I was lost Left alone To seek a truth Unknown To them Yet longing to be discovered.

Such powerful words from quote to finish. I thought I had a favorite line, but as I was reading, each line turned out to be better than the next. Definitely a favorite of mine.

I love your quote: "Sometimes those who think etc...it could not be more true. Many times in life, we walk into the clutches of seemingly kind and gracious individuals who turn out not to be a light in our lives, but a grave darkness. Kudos. Paulette

John, Today I'm finally feeling well enough to read poetry and yours is the first I've opened. Your opening quote is a gem in its own right. Nothing viable grows in stagnant soil, just as nothing good can come from blighted people who feel they tower over others. "...freedom came and I was lost..." That's splendid.
