Debts and Obligations

Dreams come in all shapes and sizes As we shift in the night Side to side, back and forth Weaving a path That takes us in and out of ourselves A self struggling to get right And make it right, always and only With itself. These debts and obligations Follow us everywhere As our baggage and shadow Weighing us down Keeping feet on the ground While making spirits soar In dreams Of freedom, liberation and redemption For, from and to This relentless Creator This pervasive Self Embodied like a host of so many Tar Babies To engage and ensnare But in the end Spur us on to survive In the briar patch Of our own little fables. All the while the Dream Continues to morph As we toss and turn, Waking again and again Peeling layer after layer To deliver us in the end Not so much from evil But simply to The chance To try again.
