“Abandon all hope you who enter here.” Thus says the sign on a hell’s cavern, According to Dante’s third “Canto”. Poor being who doesn’t recognise The perilous seas he’s set to swim, Once he tasted that first colourful pill That sends him into euphoric bliss. For once you start, you’ll want it again And again and nothing will stop you, Not even if you have no funds for the pill. Families are wrecked with worry and strife. Drug takers are often jailed for some time. He’ll get tired of living as death becomes a relief. Poor parents must commit to rehab their offspring, Very much against their bitter wish. And if by some miracle he gets over addiction, Hell still remains with signs of severe depression, Plus anxiety, insomnia, and sleep apnea. Then comes some climax and an overdose. Families shattered and left with a few coloured pills.

Sadly it happens too many times, and some overdose and lose their lives. It’s very hard on those left behind. Words so true Victor, I’m so sorry for those that indulge and become addicted … Beryl

Drug use has become increasingly higher in the place I live. Sadly school going children and college students are more prone to it. There is an organized mafia working behind. They function mainly around educational institutions targeting students. By the time, authorities and parents come to know of it, it will be too late and beyond redemption. A timely poem of awareness, dear Victor.

Your words ring true my friend. So many in this addictive state of compliance. Their worlds are ruined and there is almost nothing they can do about it. Thank you for sharing Victor...

Dear Victor, what a chilling descent, a stark and unflinching truth laid bare. I believe you captured the grip of addiction with such raw honesty and the cycle, the devastation, the lingering shadow even after escape. It’s powerful, haunting, and deeply moving. And being a Drug and Alcohol counselor, I say incredible work! Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Being addicted to anything is devastating to the person and those who love them and sometimes others who don't even know them because they can resort to stealing and killing. Thanks for sharing this one with us. It was on the news over here about the authorities at the Mexican border seized a huge quantity of meth and fentanyl worth millions of dollars. So wonderful that they caught it and stopped it from being distributed. They tried to hide it in berries(blueberries, blackberries, etc.) Sara K

Dearest Victor, your poem powerfully depicts addiction as a living hell, using stark imagery to show its grip on both the user and their loved ones. The final line is especially haunting, symbolizing the devastation left behind. A hint of hope could add contrast, but its raw impact is undeniable....Hugs

So true. The only pill I am kind of addicted to is my sleeping pill. If only I did not keep waking up at night.

Very good message. Here in the USA it has been an epidemic. It is sad. I have a grandchild only in her teens who has entered that path, she needs prayer so badly, rejecting God and ruining her parents lives by all the trouble she is causing. I am distraught over her, she is so different. One of her aunts, another of my daughters has precious dreams that she is the same sweet girl she was before, and awakens and remembers the reality. I'm so worried about her. Please pray for that precious girl.

death, a 'non color' of life, to us is a blank ......some people have natural shorter life expectancies/or not and enjoy what they can....why not.......len

For some it starts with marijuana, then on to the harder stuff. And yet it's increasingly becoming legal. I can't imagine what this world would look like in a hundred years if not for divine intervention. Surely we would become a zombie species, if we didn't blow ourselves up first

It's a downward spiral Victor, ruins so many lives, pushers and dealers should be sent down for life for the misery they cause. Tom
