Notes About The Poem

G Forms - Grook Contest - Constance La France 8/10/24

Death, Be Not So Hurried

'The boundaries dividing Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?’
                                                                              – Edgar Allan Poe

not yet have I said farewell
so, I turned Death away
ignoring his knock on my door
but his cold hand persisted
"you've come too soon," I cried ~
"Death, be not so hurried"
my plea was made in vain
daylight wanes in darkness
a requiem hymn
sung by weeping mourners

Lin, congratulations. Was delighted to see your name on the winners list! The plea to survive is so strongly stated yet there is no negotiating with death. Wonderfully written, my friend. Sending you blessings!

Lin, had your poem been the quote, I’d have accepted that as a fact. Marvellous phraseology… akin to great poets of old and yet new… and yet… you. You must have been chuffed with this and I suspect a podium place awaits you. Terry

Hi Terry, Can you tell I'm a Poe poet? Your accolades, along with the others who've commented are enough of a prize for me if this one doesn't place in a contest. I'd rather have the thumbs up from several poets I respect than from one. Constance is a fair judge and if she honors my lines with a placement... it'll be the crown to this Rondeau. It was a challenge... hope I was up for it and thanks for thinking so highly of my writes. Hugs.

Yikes, one day he'll kick the door in and takes us, not too soon I hope. Even without the quote it's very Poe like. Tom

A dark piece Lin, with the spectre of death hanging in the background, not overpowering but stubborn and always there just the same, powerful penning, cheers David

Thanks so much, David. I’m always delighted to read your thoughts on my poetry. It was a choice between life or death for the contest. Why I always choose the dark road baffles me.

AN IMMEDIATE...FAVE...FAVE...BRAVO. like counting coup on Edgar's headstone.

A double fave from you is a win to me whether it places in a contest or not. When I write in Poe mood and then read it aloud, I fear I might hear his heartbeat beneath my feet as he counts coup on me.
