Dear Rosebud

Dear Rosebud: The morning dew gently caresses you like the faint whisper of a young child's kiss. Your limbs yearningly reach for the sun as if awaiting a long lost lover's embrace. Only a pair of vacant eyes could fail to see the wonderful symphony of color waiting to be. If allowed to come into full bloom uninterrupted, butterflies will dance liltingly across your awakening splendor as honey bees sing praises to your blossoms burgeoning bounty. I can only pray your thorns grow sharp and rugged enough to defend against the groping hands of life's wickedness. Only the desires of the most savage hearts would ravage a still unfolding beauty and extinguish a spectacle yet to be. Only a vile pair of ears could fail to hear a shattering heart and the soul deafening screams of a rose picked too soon. Love dad...

I really appreciate the compliment on this one. "Dear Rosebud" is near and dear to me personally. I labored over every line and word on this one even more intensely than usual. Kim!

Wow, that ending caught me off guard! I assumed it was just an elegant ode to nature... but you turned it into so much more than that. Thorns would come in handy for a girl slowly becoming a lady... excellent work, my friend!

Thank You Isaiah your compliment means a lot. I appreciate reading good metered verse, but I find it creatively constipating to write in meter, so one of my focuses is the careful wording of each and every line in my poetry. I nearly drive myself insane at times doing it. Kim

Wonderful, Kim! I cannot help myself when I see Rosebud, as it evokes "Citizen Kane" thoughts in me immediately. Great imagery and the last line is one that resonates with all dads for sure!

You hit the proverbial nail on the head. I needed a name that a father might nickname a daughter that not only stayed with my rose theme, but that was representative of a rose that had not yet bloomed and then I remembered the last line in "Citizen Kane." Thank You Roy!

I felt my heart fall when I read the last 3 lines. A rosebud on the altar of light. The poem is beautiful Kim, I don't know why but i thought of my grandson who was picked too soon. ----> Your limbs yearningly reach for the sun as if awaiting a long lost lover's embrace. <--- heartfelt line. ((((Only a pair of vacant eyes could fail to see the wonderful symphony of color waiting to be))) <--- that line is the most beautiful line EVER~ I mean it from the bottom of my heart. LUV*LINDA
